While not overly common, whale sharks are found in our waters off of Costa Rica. The best part about it, you never know where they are going to show up. We have had sightings at the Catalinas, Bat Islands as well as the diving in the Gulf de Papagayo. This most recent sighting was made at the dive site in the Gulf de Papagayo called Turning Point. It is a great little dive site next to the famous Monkey Head! This juvenile whale shark happened to appear on a day where we had great visibility and great dive conditions.
What is more, we had students on this day who were completing their open water certification! Talk about welcoming someone to the world of diving with style!
Like I mentioned, this isn’t something you expect to see when you come diving in Costa Rica. Whenever you hop in the water though you should be prepared for a surprise. Whether it is humpback whales, dolphins, bull sharks, mantas, false killer whales, or something else altogether, the waters of Costa Rica are full of a wide variety of marine life in an abundance!
Come visit either our dive shop in Flamingo or in Playas del Coco and take advantage of the great service we have been offering to our customers for the past 8 years here in Costa Rica!
Thanks for choosing to dive with Rocket Frog Divers!
