Sombrero West

At about 50ft one small shelf of rock by the sandy bottom is often home to a white tip or 2, but you have to get right up to the entrance to find them. This side of sombreros is a little more exposed to weather/water conditions and can be a bit rough if there is a big swell.  Starting at the south point you can reach 80 ft, starting in the middle you have a shallower sloped area of rocks and can head north to the channel at the north. Mantas have been seen here as have white tip reef sharks, turtles and schools of devil rays. Schools of grunts here seem to be bigger than many others and keep your eyes open for eagle rays flying by.  In cooler waters check out the sandy bottom for southern stingrays.

Time of year and weather conditions can find the water temperatures to range between 65-80 degrees F (18-27C).

Marine life that are commonly seen at these sites include white tip reef sharks, eagle rays, mantas, stingrays, moray eels, moorish idols, scorpion fish, octopus, schools of grunts, lobsters and maybe a seahorse.
