The Wall
One of the go-to sites at the main island of the Catalinas group. Often great for seeing a bit of everything. Despite being called a wall it’s not what a diver would typically think of when diving a wall, there is no drop off but consists of more vertical rock faces up to 90 ft deep with sandy bottoms leading into some channels. These sandy bottomed channels often have numerous white tip reef sharks hanging out in them. Also in Giant Manta season there are often sightings here. Eagle rays are commonly spotted and when the water is cooler the sandy bottom can be covered in southern stingrays. Schools of devil rays and also of the more seasonal cownose rays have been seen here. Black tip reef and bull sharks have on a rare occasion been seen here.
This site can be subject to rougher conditions if there is a strong swell which can leave some of the channels difficult to explore. If conditions are calm it’s possible to stay at 40ft for less advanced divers.
Time of year and weather conditions can find the water temperatures to range between 65-80 degrees F (18-27C).
Marine life commonly seen at these sites include white tip reef sharks, eagle rays, southern stingrays, moray eels, octopus, schools of big-eye jacks and grunts, moorish idols and seahorses.
